I was reminded this morning of a sermon that I heard a couple years ago. "Don't Fool with the Foolish." By Bro. Carpenter from Maryville, TN. At revolution for the last couple weeks we have been talking in part about who do you allow to influence your life. Saturday as students checked in at the info booth they were given a sticker that they had to fill out. It said on it..."MY BEST FRIENDS ARE:" and then it listed 1. 2. 3. It is important to take a look at who/what influences our lives the most.
In 1st Samuel 25 here God tells a story about a man named Nabal and his wife. Nabal was very rich and had great possessions, however, when David came to him asking for food he denied him. With this David was very angry and went out with 400 men to fight...i mean kill him (there would not be much of a fight.) When Nabal's wife heard who David was and what he had done she got food together and met David as he was on his way to kill Nabal. Her actions saved her entire household from certain death.
Nabal simply means "fool." Whenever you treat people harshly without cause (especially when they have done good things for you) you are a fool. However, Nabal's wife refused to fool with her foolish husband. She did what was right despite him. She did not allow the foolish actions of another stop her from doing what was right. Read the rest of the chapter...check out what happens to her in the end. It's pretty awesome.
I will ask it again....Who influences your life? We all need to make sure that we are not fooling with foolish people, but we have people in our lives that are leading us into a closer relationship with Jesus.
Yesterday, Kara and I took some of our friends to the airport. Today they will be crossing the ocean to be in South Africa as Missionaries. I know Great Things are going to take place. Here are some pictures from the airport yesterday. We love you Guys.
Also I just got the book "SOUL CRAVINGS" and I am looking forward to reading it!
hmm... maybe you could also look at Nabal not giving David food as another form of disobedience... My question is how did Nabal's wife, get hooked up with Nabal.. She maybe they just got married or engaged at 17. it is the trend nowadays. j/k
