I want to share something that God has been dealing with me about. (This is a long post)
First of all it is a privilege to be able to lead. I try not to take it lightly. I constantly pray for God to make me a better leader. I invest money and time reading and listening to resources to increase my leadership abilities and ideas. As a young leader it is easy for me to have a head full of ideas. I talk to friends in Student ministry that are full of cutting-edge, fresh, revolutionary ideas. However, the thing that creeps in me and in other young leaders that I talk to is an apathy about serving. Just because you have an idea does not mean that it is good or that it is in season. Many times we have joy about our ideas but not about serving.
If we believe that God created us with purpose and design, then we have to believe that God has a specific purpose for TODAY! As a Student Pastor I believe I have a larger purpose TODAY than just reaching students and creating this movement of students that shake the world. True, this consumes me. This is what I think and pray about all the time. I want to see God totally TRANSFORM the lives of students. I am consumed with the idea that the students at revolution that I preach to each week are going to be key players in the move of God in the world today and tomorrow. However, as a Student Pastor my job is bigger than just carrying out MY ideas. My job is to serve.
I am called to serve my Pastor. I am so thankful for my Pastor. He is a man of God who is filled with wisdom! He has done and is doing a tremendous job leading our church in revival and growth. He is the only Pastor I have ever had! He is truly a spiritual Father to me. I am thankful that he has allowed me to serve him. If you are a Student Pastor, you must be consumed with the joy of serving the leadership that God has placed you under. That's right, I said JOY. You do not just serve SO THAT you can do YOUR ideas, but you serve with JOY trusting that God is leading and directing your Pastor!
Listen to King Jehoshaphat's observation of who Elisha was:
1 Kings 3:11
But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
His identity was wrapped up in his SERVICE to Elijah. "Pouring water on the hands of Elijah." Essentially this is a nice way of saying he would wash Elijah's hands. Sounds pretty menial to me. However God used this act of service so much that the KING HIMSELF took notice of him.
When you serve the leadership that God has placed in your life the KING OF KINGS takes notice of your service.
SO SERVE WITH JOY!
