I don't know if you have a grandmother like mine, but mine loves to cook. Her food is the best! While I was at her house for Thanksgiving I watched her cooking and she was putting all the ingredients together without any measurements. A pinch of salt here, a little bit of butter there. From my futile attemps at cooking I understand the importance of measuring your ingredients. However, my grandmother just knew how much was needed of each ingredient. She knew what was enough.
God is the same way. He knows exactly what he is making out of our lives. He knows how much of each ingredient we need. A touch of pain, mixed with a bit of joy. Moments of tears, mixed with times of laughter. Failed attempts, mixed with triumph. We may not understand how god measures out the different ingredients of our lives, but God is making something beautiful if we will stay in His process.
I recently read something that put this all in perspective for me...It is a prayer from a mother for her daughter...
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish enough "Hello's" to get you through the final "Goodbye.
God knows exactly what we need. So don't forget, "Enough is Enough."
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." -Philippians 4:19
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." -Romans 8:28
Tom Trimble just preached "Enough is Enough" here in Sydney Australia.
